I am hard pressed to remember when I started cooking. My mom had a couple of well worn cookbooks that she had that had belonged to her mother. I have those cookbooks now and can remember pouring over these books when I was in the sixth or seventh grade looking for new things to cook for dinner. Both my mom and dad worked nights. My oldest sister got married when I was twelve so I cooked out of necessity and not for fun.
My left $5 dollars on the table and when I got home from school, with my little sister in tow we would walk to the store to buy groceries for that night's dinner. I had two older brothers and my little sister to cook for. I don't remember much about what I cooked. I remember us sitting around the table.
